Mehra Community

We make up the Khatri community of Uttar Pradesh along with the Tandon, Kapoor and Sethi clans. In Punjab, we are better known as Malhotra, which is derived from Mehrotra. Mehra owes its origins to 'Mihr', meaning the sun. In Vedic society, we belonged to the Kshatriya varna or warrior clan. Members of our community occupy top positions in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
